A student who is enrolled in a STEM program is in a distinct STEM field, distinct from teacher education. A student studying in molecular biology, for instance, will work as a scientist in the STEM fields. It’s possible that they won’t be directly exposed to technology, engineering, or mathematics related to their career, but it’s likely that they will be in some capacity. Consequently, integration in the context of STEM may or may not take place, but it is important to remember that they are in a STEM sector.

With regard to teacher education, this is untrue. Imagine a high school science teacher that only teaches science; they do not work with other STEM faculty members or incorporate technology, engineering, or math into their curricula. Despite working in a STEM profession, this instructor is only a science teacher and not a STEM educator because they do not integrate or cooperate. This is true for all STEM educators working in K–12 settings.

Importance of STEM Education for Kids

To conclude, STEM education differs from other study modules in that it places a heavy emphasis on technology and future readiness while emphasising hands-on, interdisciplinary, problem-solving learning.
